Rapid Access Appointments at Priority Paediatrics.
At Priority Paediatrics, we understand that there are occasions when an urgent appointment with a paediatric doctor is required, but it may not be necessary to attend the Emergency Department. Priority Paediatrics offers fast and accessible appointments with a paediatrician for non-critical issues, via our Rapid Access Team; doctors who also work at the Women's and Children's Hospital.
For urgent matters, in-clinic appointments with our Rapid Access Team at Priority Paediatrics in North Adelaide, are available within 7 days, and Telehealth within 1-2 days, often less.
Rapid Access appointments at Priority Paediatrics are available to patients who have either been referred by their General Practitioner or local Emergency Department. Patients may also elect to self-refer in order to access an appointment quickly. In this case, however, Medicare will not provide a rebate for the cost of the appointment.
WHEN IS RAPID ACCESS INDICATED?
The types of presentations that our Rapid Access Team can assist with include:
Asthma
Ear pain
Minor injuries
Convulsions
Rashes
Reflux
Sore throat
Abdominal pain
Strains and sprains
Poor weight gain

If you think that your child requires immediate attention, then you should present to your closest Emergency Department or dial 000.
We reserve a number of appointments for Rapid Access only. These appointments aren't "released" until 7 days beforehand. In addition, our Paediatricians at Priority Paediatrics offer Telehealth consultations which provides the flexibility to add in extra appointments at short notice, where possible. Referrals will be triaged, and those that meet the criteria for Rapid Access will be offered an appointment within 7 days or less.
